About Me

About me

Art can only be created in freedom, that is, in the self-determination of man. For art, as Kandinsky also knew, there is no "must".

Michael Pinter, born on June 29, 1969, in Graz, Austria, is a versatile artist living and working in Graz, Zeist, and Berlin. Initially self-taught, he later attended the Meisterschule der Malerei in Graz under the guidance of Gerhard Lojen. Pinter’s artistic journey spans painting, drawing, writing, composing, and media art, with a focus on sound, video, and computer art since 1996.

As a founding member of various artistic associations and contributor to free radio, Pinter has received recognition for his work, including awards such as the Landes Steiermark Arbeitsstipendium and Staatsstipendium Holland in 2002. He has been actively involved in the promotion of open source software and multimedia tools.

Pinter’s artistic explorations extend to socio-cultural net art sculptures in public spaces, collaborating with Karin Koschell as the artist group miCC since 2006. His contributions to festivals, exhibitions, and art projects demonstrate a commitment to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

In the realm of visual arts, Pinter has exhibited extensively, showcasing his paintings, drawings, and installations in various group and solo exhibitions across Europe. Notable exhibitions include “Kollaborieren statt Kollabieren” in Vienna and “Koloniale 319” in Berlin.

His literary and artistic contributions have been recognized through publications, including articles and reviews about his work in books such as “Schriftfilme Schrift als Bild in Bewegung” and “Hauptdarsteller Schrift.” Pinter’s diverse talents also extend to acoustical compositions, with several albums released under the name BloodyBlackRedRabbits.

In addition to his individual artistic pursuits, Pinter has collaborated with other artists, participated in group performances, and engaged in conceptual art projects. His creative journey reflects a commitment to pushing artistic boundaries, exploring new mediums, and contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape.
